I have taken a couple days off from sewing (and cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc) because we were on the go so much this week, which I love, but...the planner in me thrives on schedules and getting things checked off my To Do list. This is nothing new- it happens every summer! I can only be laid back and easy going for so long before I snap, ha! Then I want my routines back, the sooner the better. I'm sure I'm not the only Mom who goes through this, right?
Anyhoo.
I completely forgot to write about the boys' trip to Maine with my Dad last weekend, and...our 18-hour-long-all-by-oursevleves-without-any-kids-around DATE!
It was such a beautiful day but it was still hot and sticky, so we opted for a seaside picnic at sunset. I was really surprised when we got to the beach and the second I stepped out of the car a breeze hit me that was cool enough to give me goose bumps! It felt awesome! We sat on our towels and ate and talked and laughed. There was no one to watch, to reprimand, to worry about, to entertain...no one but us! Well, there were lots of other people. but we didn't have to pay any attention to them! Heavenly!
We spent a couple hours walking along the edge- the tide was rolling in and both of us got a few unexpected thigh-high wave crashes, ha ha, but it was so nice walking and talking in such a beautiful setting. We didn't get home until dark, and of course Ryder had to go out, but then we settled in for some...wait for it...Friday Night Lights! HA! I think the best feeling was not having to get anyone ready for bed, and not having anyone wander into our room before 6:30 am the next morning.
We love hiking, so we ate something quick and walked over to some neighborhood trails with Ryder. It seems this year we're being bombarded with deer flies and sweat bees every time we venture outside, and they hurt! They get in your eyes, ears, up your nose {gross- true story!} and it's miserable! Poor Ryder is constantly shaking his head to try to get them away because they attack him too. Other than that, it was a great little hike! Then we came back and did yard work...oh, so exciting!
Isabelle had so much fun at her sleepover, she wasn't all too happy about coming back home! We had a special pizza & movie picnic that night in the family room, and then we brought a picnic lunch to church with us so we could drive out to Beech Hill Farm afterwards and see the animals. It was such a nice change of pace, and I know Isabelle soaked up all the extra attention!
The boys were just getting back at the same time we were Sunday afternoon, and they were full of excited tales of all the happenings from their adventure. I thought Ethan was going to bring his camera and document some things for me, but nope. Nothing! They had a blast, and that's what really matters.
Now I have to be honest here- I was really nervous about their trip, for much of the weekend. It came and went in spurts. I was afraid someone would get hurt, or they'd drive Grampy insane, or someone would be mean and argumentative...the list goes on and on! But they all agreed that it was a great trip!
I wish I could add some pictures, but it still won't let me. I'll have to figure something out soon because posts without pictures drive me batty, ha!
