Cookie goodness

I'm going to share my family's all-time favorite treat for the holiday season ~

Chinese Chocolate Spiders

Christmas just wouldn't be the same without them!

Four ingredients, four easy steps, and no baking...it just doesn't get any better than that!

Here is what you'll need:

  • 1- 12 oz bag semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1- 11 oz bag butterscotch morsels
  • 1- 5 oz can La Choy Chow Mein noodles
  • 1- 16 oz jar peanuts (there were NO regular dry-roasted peanuts left in the store, only the unsalted kind, bleck...but the final product tastes great regardless- perfect if you're watching your salt intake!)
  • 1-2 large pieces of waxed paper spread out on the counter or table
Here's how you make 'em:

Mix together butterscotch & chocolate chips in large pan over medium heat

It takes about three minutes for them to begin to melt; keep stirring occasionally until fully melted
Add the peanuts & the chow mein noodles all at once; stir to coat- this takes a few minutes to make sure all the pieces are fully covered

Like that...
This is way more fun with adorable helpers too!

Once the pieces are coated, place pan on hot pad near the waxed paper & spoon out the "spiders" ~ you can make them as little or huge as you want.
These guys were pretty monstrous because I was in a hurry!  (see all the mishaps on the counter?)
You don't need to worry about rushing, though, because they don't begin to harden for several minutes.

Okay, I know, this stage isn't the most attractive, as they resemble Rudolph droppings or something, but bear with me ~ they are awesome!

No need to refrigerate, just let them sit, and that's it!  They're ready when they no longer fall apart as you break pieces off to nibble, ha! If you're in a hurry, place the waxed paper on a cookie sheet and toss the whole thing in the fridge for 20 minutes or until set.

So, so, SO good!

Sometimes I buy larger quantities of the nuts & noodles and just toss in what looks right ~ this is a very versatile recipe!

I wonder how long I'll be able to hold off Isabelle! ;)

LOVE those! never had them with the chocolate though, only with butterscotch. Wish I could find the ingredients there to make them. :-( Enjoy!
