Senior Prom 2018!

I've been having computer issues, ugh, but I finally got things squared away, so I thought it would be fun to share pictures of Ethan's Senior Prom. We just adore these two...aren't they the cutest?!

Last year the weather was perfect so we got different backgrounds. This year, no such luck, so we stuck with the gazebo, because covered. ha ha But I think they turned out great! We bought the suit and had it altered for Ethan for college interviews and such, and I made him the grey vest and matching bow tie and pocket square from a wrap that his girlfriend decided not to wear. If you haven't checked out prices to rent tuxes in a while, you will be in sticker shock. I sure was! I think this worked out really nicely. The picture below is one of my favorites. So sweet!

None of us is particularly good about pinning on the boutonniere (yes, I totally just had to look up the spelling, ha ha ha), so they were pretending in this picture, right before I pinned it on for real. And then we realized that it's supposed to be on the pocket side. Oops!

And with her beautiful corsage. Ah to be so young and in love. :)

I'll just share the rest without commentary. Don't be too shocked, okay?

Oh they are just gorgeous, inside AND out!

They asked permission to attend an after prom party at a friend's house, and after talking it over- and praying about it!- we said they could go. Apparently their friend's Mom is way cooler than yours truly because she kept bringing the kids freshly baked cookies, hot pizza and snacks all night long. Obviously we parents know this is all code for checking in on things without "checking," so I was secretly relieved and glad to hear that. :) They both said it was such a great night, and I'm so glad they had so much fun. They were good to me, sending me updates and pictures there.

I'm 99.9 percent finished making plans for the big graduation party as well as the special project I've been working on for months now. I'll share soon! Have a great rest of the week! :)

Friday Favorites...Busy Days

I am SO glad today is Friday! I feel like I say that a lot- who doesn't??- but today I reeeeaaaally mean it. :)

I'm joining in for Friday Favorites a little late today, which pretty much sums up this week for me, ha ha. Busy busy busy! As I type this, I am well aware of the fact that I should be getting ready for Isabelle's recital, plus getting Levi ready. #priorities

Last night was Isabelle's school concert- she did great, though I admit, I look at her recently and suddenly she seems so grown up and it puts a lump in my throat. Wasn't she just my little girl like yesterday? So when I wasn't choking back tears, I actually really enjoyed the concert! ha ha

My favorite- and one and only- girl!!!

Front porch blooms - my favorites!!!

This speaks for itself. Right? His smiles are definitely my favorites!

Favorite pastime this week FOR SURE has been all the outside play time after school and after dinner. I adore this time!

My favorite high school senior! We did some pictures the other day and I love how they turned out. I need to do some more casual ones. Ironically, this photo didn't come out clear like I'd hoped, but I love the barn backdrop and his easy going smile, so I'm going to play around with it, ha ha. I'll share the other pics soon! And tomorrow is PROM! How on earth did we get here already?!

She and I are severely outnumbered so doing girly things is a real favorite!

And this photo just popped up and has me feeling all the feels. Ah. Motherhood, you are not for the faint of heart. I remember this very moment like it was yesterday!

All About Levi at 2 Years Old

I've had it in my mind to write this post a dozen times over the past month and it just never happens. Levi is changing and growing in such ways it truly amazes me, and I want to be sure to record all these precious moments before they get away from me.

Levi started saying his name about two weeks ago. It was the funniest thing- he was in his chair at lunch on a Saturday, so we were all around him, and he suddenly started saying his name really loudly. We were so shocked and he looked so proud! Lots of times, it sounds like "Wih-VI" and it just melts my heart! I love that he puts the emphasis on the latter part, ha ha. He has also begun to say his first sentences using his name, like "Levi happy," "Levi outside," but our favorite is definitely "Levi FUNnnnnnny"- he says this over and over and by the end, it sounds more like "Vee-VI-funnnnNY" all as one word. Clever little guy!

He is also putting together three and four word sentences, and every single day, he says at least twenty new things. I know I was equally mesmerized and overjoyed when the older boys and Isabelle began to say sentences, but honestly, that was such a long time ago, so it does feel like I'm going through this for the first time again. And it is the best! I love it! I think his very first "complex" sentence was (while looking up at our light in our room): light on, fan go round, round. Wow, right? Probably not, but it was a wow moment for this Mama, ha ha ha. Since then he's also said "Plane high SKY" and a usual around here: Wy-dee (Ryder the dog) GO bye-bye. HA His emphasis cracks me up!

We also said goodbye to his fluffy curls on the top and back of his head. That's the only place they were growing long, and they always puffed up. The day I cut his hair broke my heart ever so slightly, but he looks so handsome, I got over it pretty quickly. Jonah is our other curly haired kid, but I think Levi's will be more like Caleb's, rather fine and straight. It looks completely golden blonde in the sun now, just like Caleb's, too. I see a big resemblance with Ethan when he was two, but then lots of times, he will look just like Caleb. We don't see as much Jonah in him these days, but they change so often and quickly.

We've had a few truly toddler moments, especially in the grocery store, where I had to contemplate leaving the nearly full cart behind and carrying him outside. That's always fun, right? Oh! And twice now, he has somehow gotten himself a piece of gum without my noticing a thing...until he comes back proudly chomping away, ha ha! Now, if you know me, you know that gum is a touchy subject in this house because I HATE it so much, so when I put packs of gum in stockings and Easter baskets, that's pretty much the ONLY time it makes an appearance on my watch. The older kids always seem to have some, but I don't ask and they don't tell, HA. Apparently they leave it around where I don't notice, and little Mr. Nosy does!

I've learned that the best way to get him inside without a meltdown is to entice him with the idea of washing his hands. So far, so good. He runs to his little stool by the sink and knows exactly what to do, almost all by himself now. He loves to pat his hands dry on the towel, as well as pat mine too. :)

Levi has been practicing walking up and down stairs on his feet instead of crawling up or down, likes to sit on a big boy swing seat, and thankfully, still enjoys long walks in the jogger. Most of the time anyway. He has blown bubbles from a wand a few times now, can bust a move like no other when he hears a song he likes, and has most recently turned into a complete and total daredevil. I am getting heart attacks on the daily for sure! There is nothing he isn't trying to climb or swing from, but he still loves down time and snuggling in our bed with his favorite books (which are still the same from this post, ha!).

One of his favorite pastimes is running to his stool by the window to check out big trucks and school buses, and to wave hello and goodbye at everyone coming and going. He is quite obsessed with school buses at the moment and points them out more than any other vehicle.

Daddy still gives him his bath every night, changes him into his jammies, and then we read together. Usually, he wants Daddy to read one story and Mommy to read the other. Then it's our time to rock and sing and cuddle. He still nurses at night more for familiarity's sake than any other reason I think, and then we say Ni-night to the birdies outside, Ni-night to the kitties, and of course Isabelle- a couple weeks ago, those two had the sweetest little bedtime exchanges with kisses and grins, but now Levi scrunches up his face and shrugs his shoulders and refuses to let her kiss him. He still smiles and waves at her, but I know it hurts her feelings a little, so I try to explain that he isn't doing that on purpose.

He brings such joy into our family. None of us can really remember what it was like before him. He is truly a gift and I'm so thankful for him. I think maybe he might have us all wrapped around those chubby little fingers, too. ;)

Ha, and right on cue, here is my cute little 5:15 wake up call. I can usually get him to go back to sleep for at least another hour...wish me luck! :)

Mother's Day Weekend

I know Mother's Day can be hard. If it's hard for you, then please know that I am thinking of you and praying for you.

Also, I didn't mean to take a week hiatus, but that's life sometimes, right? One thing led to another and another and bam!, it was the weekend.

I posted something on Instagram last week and I thought I'd share some of that here as well. I don't ever want to be phony, but at the same time, my first priority is maintaining the appropriate privacy for my family's sake. Last week brought some challenges. And a series of events opened up some very painful wounds, which I am currently processing and praying about. Yes, I did have a lovely Mother's Day weekend, but there are some big things going on behind the scenes which are just plain hard. Sorry if that's confusing or obtuse. I'm just trying to be real.

Yesterday was just the most gorgeous day. I did not have to prepare or clean up a single meal. Hooray! My only request was a new picture out front with all my children, so after church, we were playing around outside waiting for the guys to get home. Come to find out, they'd gone off to pick up something that Caleb had ordered for me and then came home with sushi for lunch. :)

Attempt #1

Attempt #2
ha ha ha

We did some errands on Saturday and then I picked out a few new plants plus a gorgeous new tea rose bush. Then my Mom and Dad gave me a pretty Knockout rose bush. They'll both be going out by the pool and I cannot wait to see everything in bloom this year! This tractor did not come home with us, but the cute driver did.

I feel like the only appropriate caption for the above photo is simply: "Hey, Girl."
ha ha ha

Ethan's girlfriend came over that night to watch a movie with us, which is always so fun, but something had popped in my neck and shoulder and I spent the night icing and wincing from pain. Ouch. Thankfully it was much better in the morning.

We brought Levi and Isabelle to a favorite local farm for an hour after nap time and it was so nice. What was NOT so nice was that I forgot my phone on the counter on the way out the door. Oops. So no pics but we had a fun time. We got home and Ethan came outside to play frisbee with me, and then these two just played and played. Such a beautiful, beautiful afternoon. My heart felt incredibly full sitting out there just taking it all in.

We ordered this swing set right before the cruise, and sometimes Levi wants nothing to do with it, and other times, it's like he's training for a toddler ninja tournament. So funny.

We had steak marinated in one of my favorite homemade marinades, the first corn on the cob of the season, and for dessert, they made me some delicious chocolate-covered strawberries, as well as some cheesecake ones- they were dipped in a cream cheese topping and then rolled in graham cracker crumbs. They were SO GOOD. Levi thought so too, ha!
After bath time and getting Levi to sleep, Caleb and I headed out to build a little fire in our fire pit. We're going to make a bigger one near the pool this summer and I know we'll be spending many hours out there together. Isabelle came outside and sit with us, and we were surprised when it was suddenly nine o'clock. The bats had begun zooming overhead anyway, so it was a good time to put out the fire and head inside. I know bats are good and everything but I do not care for them when they're practically dive-bombing my head.

It was a great weekend and I felt very loved. I hope you did too! :)
